Our city is connected by roads, cycleways and pedestrian pathways. We evaluate requests to develop, enhance, or introduce new facilities for our community.

How we can help

Traffic changes

Request new or upgraded infrastructure, including the following:
  • traffic devices / signals
  • road signs
  • line marking
  • speed humps

Footpaths

Request:
  • a new footpath where none exists, or
  • upgrades to an existing footpath, such as widening.

Cycleways

Request:
  • a new cycleway where none exists, or
  • upgrades to an existing cycleway, such as widening.

Pedestrian crossings

Request:
  • new pedestrian crossings, or
  • upgrades to existing crossing infrastructure, such as additional signage, raised crossings and kerb extensions.
School zones
For locations within a school zone, feedback should be provided directly to the relevant school. City of Newcastle generally only considers changes to infrastructure near schools when requested by the school.

  • Speed limit - TfNSW is the approving authority to change a speed limit on any road in NSW
  • Traffic changes and signs on a State Road
  • Traffic and pedestrian light operation and maintenance

Raise a request

Before you begin

  • It is helpful to include details about why you are requesting the new or improved infrastructure. This could include safety concerns, parking congestion or access issues, traffic build up etc.
  • When lodging your request, you will have the option to attach photos or other supporting documents.

Location matters!

Providing specific details about the location of (enter form details) helps us locate and address it quickly. Please include cross streets, house numbers, or identifying landmarks.

Next steps

  1. You'll receive an acknowledgement with your request and tracking numbers, allowing you to monitor its progress in our Customer Portal.
  2. Your request will be assigned to a traffic engineer to investigate.
  3. New signage requests are reviewed by our Traffic and Transport team and must be approved by the Newcastle City Traffic Committee before installation.
  4. Once your request has been completed, you will receive a notification. Please note that the completion of your request may mean the work has been actioned, scheduled, or added to our future planning.

Time frames

  • An acknowledgment will be emailed within 3 days.
  • The timeframe for investigation varies depending on the nature and scope of the request.
