Illegal building works are those carried out without the necessary development consent, complying development certificate, or construction certificate, or those not consistent with an approved plan.
These unauthorised works often come to our attention during property exchanges or through complaints from neighbours or other parties.
When to use this form
Report to us
- A structure that has been erected without approval.
- A building being used for a purpose other than the current property consent stipulates.
- A pool may be built without consent, appears unsafe or has unsafe fencing.
- A structure appears dangerous or dilapidated.
- If you suspect building works are inconsistent with a development approval and City of Newcastle is the principal certifier for the application.

- Certificate of Non-Compliance - Swimming Pool.
- Request to change Principal Certifier.
- Surrender a Development Consent.
