When to use this form

If you operate a public swimming pool or spa, you are legally required to notify City of Newcastle.
  • You must notify use before you begin operating the pool or spa.
  • This notification is required by law under the Public Health Act 2010.
  • Operating a public pool or spa without submitting this notification is an offence.
  • This notification is specifically related to water quality and public health.

Safety requirements

You must still comply with the Swimming Pools Act 1992, which includes safety measures such as:
  • fencing and barriers
  • controlled access to the pool or spa.

Application fees

  • There are no fees payable when you submit your application. We'll invoice you after your application and preferences have been reviewed.
  • If you'd like a fee estimate before applying, search for the application name in our Fees and Charges document.

Next steps

  1. Shortly after submitting your application, you will receive an email confirming we've received it, along with an invoice for the application fees.
  2. We'll review your application and let you know if your pool or spa is compliant or if further action is required.
  3. If action is required, City of Newcastle will contact you to arrange an inspection.
  4. You'll receive the inspection outcome by email:
  5. Compliant - A certificate will be issued.
  6. Non-compliant - We'll outline rectification steps and arrange a follow-up inspection.

Time frames

Inspections typically take place 7 days after you submit your application.
