Pre-Development Application Consultation

If you're planning to lodge a Development Application (DA), we're here to help.
City of Newcastle offers two types of support to guide you through the process.

Duty Officer Service – free general advice

Our Duty Officer can provide general advice about preparing your DA. This service is available:
  • by phone, email or in person at our City Administration Centre
  • in 20-minute appointments
  • call us to arrange an appointment - 4974 2000.
It's a great starting point if you have basic questions or need help understanding the process.

Pre-Development Application Service – detailed advice

For complex developments, our Pre-DA service offers detailed advice.
  • Suitable for all types of developments, including houses with view, heritage, or compliance issues.
  • Choose between written advice only or written advice plus a meeting.
  • Fees apply, based on the type and cost of your development.
Using the Pre-DA service can help you identify and resolve issues early.

Application fees

Application fees vary based on several factors. To get a quote, simply click the 'Apply Now' button below. You'll be guided through a few quick questions, and we'll provide a tailored fee estimate before you proceed.
Additional fees may apply following a full review of your application.
If you are applying for a second meeting, we will invoice you the associated fees.

  • As part of the application process, you'll be prompted to register or sign in to your account.
  • Your account makes it easy to submit applications and requests, track their progress, view outcomes, and make payments all in one place.

Next steps

Time frames

  • A meeting will be scheduled within 14 days of the application being made.
  • A written response will be provided within 21 days after the application is lodged.
