Fallen Tree or Branch

If you see a fallen public tree or branch on public land, let us know so that we can arrange removal.

Urgent requests

If a fallen tree, limb, or hanging branch poses a safety risk, please call us immediately on 4974 2000.
Please call if a tree or branch is:
  • hanging or unstable
  • blocking a footpath, road, or public access way
  • restricting access to a driveway
  • damaging or resting on property (such as a fence, house, or vehicle)
If there is any risk to safety, please don't submit this online. Please call so our team can assess and manage the situation safely.

Trees and powerlines

For fallen trees or branches impacting powerlines, contact Ausgrid on 13 13 88.
City of Newcastle is prohibited from undertaking any work in the exclusion zone around power lines.

Before you begin

  • If you require urgent assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
  • Any fallen branches from trees located on private property are the responsibility of the property owner.
  • When lodging your request, you will have the option to attach photos or other supporting documents.

Location matters!

Providing specific details about the location of the tree or branch helps us locate and address it quickly. Please include cross streets, house numbers, or identifying landmarks.

Next steps

  1. You will receive an acknowledgement with your request number
  2. We will attend the site with the fallen tree or branch and collect it.
  3. Once your request has been assessed you will receive a notification. Please note that the completion of your request may mean the work has been actioned, scheduled, or added to our future planning.

Time frames

  • Urgent branch pickups are done as soon as possible.
  • Anything not causing an obstruction or posing a hazard will typically be collected within 24-48 hours.
  • If a tree or branch appears to be weakened and is threatening to fall, an inspection will be undertaken within 3 weeks.
