Waste Education
Our educators offer engaging presentations and tours for schools and community groups on a variety of waste and recycling topics.
Whether you're looking to help students reduce waste or inspire your local group to make more sustainable choices, we can tailor the experience to suit your needs.
Community talks
- Informative presentations on current waste issues and trends or focused discussions on specific topics of interest.
Tours of Summerhill Waste Management Centre
- Guided bus tours show what happens to your waste after your bins are emptied. Learn how landfill is managed and how resources are recovered on-site.
- School groups must be Stage 2 and above.
- Bus hire must be arranged and paid for by your school/group.
Class incursions
- Classroom talks and activities on recycling, composting and more!
- Programs are available for preschool through to high school.
- Talks can be tailored and can cover topics such as resource recovery, worm farming, landfill gas management, litter and ocean pollution.
Waste audits
- Borrow a free waste audit kit to help your school identify ways to reduce waste.
- Students gain hands-on experience by sorting and weighing waste, analysing data and exploring opportunities for improvement.
- Our educators can provide guidance on integrating waste minimisation into your school's environment plan.
Waste education sessions are free and are available only to schools and community groups in the City of Newcastle local government area (LGA).
