Surrender Your Pet
We understand that life can bring unexpected challenges, and sometimes it may feel like surrendering your pet is the only option. Before making this difficult decision, please consider the following alternatives that may help you and your pet stay together or find a loving new home.
Thinking about surrendering your pet? Let’s explore other options first.
Behavioural support
- Many common issues like barking, scratching, or anxiety can be addressed with training or expert advice.
- Contact a local vet or animal behaviourist for guidance.
Financial assistance
- Struggling with pet food or vet bills? There are charities and programs that we can help get you in contact with. Contact us for further assistance.
If your situation is temporary (e.g. moving, hospital stay), consider:
- pet-sitting networks
- short-term foster care
- boarding facilities.
Ask friends or family
- a friend or family member may be willing to adopt or temporarily care for your pet
- share your pet's story, photos, and personality traits to help them connect
- use social media to reach a wider circle, sometimes the perfect home is closer than you think.
Rehoming organisations
If you truly can't keep your pet, assisted rehoming is an alternative to surrendering to a shelter. There are a number of organisations that are able to assist in this process.
