City of Newcastle will occasionally need to treat pests on public land under our control.
We investigate
Our Pest Control team are able to investigate reports of the below pests in public areas and Council owned property:
- wasps
- rats
- spiders
- cockroaches.
We do not typically investigate
Our Pest Control team are not able to investigate reports of the below pests in public areas, except for some scenarios when a safety concern is present.

Bees
Birds
Pests on private property
Pests on private land are the responsibility of the property owner, you should talk to your neighbour and engage a pest control operator.
City of Newcastle will only investigate if the property is overgrown or has accumulation of rubbish that may be causing the issue.

Providing specific details about the location of the pest helps us identify and address it quickly. Please include cross streets, house numbers, or identifying landmarks.
Next steps
- You'll receive an acknowledgement with your request number.
- Our Pest Control team will investigate the concern and where required treat the pest concern.
- You will receive a notification once your request is completed.
Time frames
Response times for pest-related requests on Council land may vary, depending on whether a risk assessment is needed and the type of treatment required.
